Renewable energy storage

Renewable energy storage is mostly about banking some form of solar energy. It may seem simple, but exactly how do you save energy for use later, or for use in some other location? It is a big problem.

With non-renewable energy, trees, shrubs and other plants concentrated sunlight into wood and other biomass. Entire forests grew, died, got compacted, then were turned into coal, gas, and oil and stored in rocks. These fuels packed lots of energy in portable places and stored well until needed.

It took millions of years to consolidate vast quantities of this natural plant energy. This is natural renewable energy storage. However, over the past few thousand years, people have been using this energy at an ever increasing rate. Burning all that fuel in a fraction of the time it took to make it has put a lot of smoke and other junk into the air faster than it can be dispersed. Cough, cough.

Connecticut’s Home Energy Solutions Program

CFLThe Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund has launched the Home Energy Solutions program for homeowners and renters in the United Illuminating (UI) and Connecticut Light & Power (electric utility) service areas. The program offers home energy assessments and weatherization services to Connecticut residents at a co-pay of $75 or less. Please refer to your utility’s website for more specific information on programs.

As a local Connecticut solar installer, it is important that we encourage our customers to take a holistic approach to energy. Solar photovoltaic energy is a good way to offset electricity demand, but consumers should also think about ways to cut their usage. Additionally, residents should also be thinking about their home’s thermal envelope (insulation and air leakage) as an opportunity to save energy. Connecticut’s Home Energy Solutions identify cost effective home energy improvements and /or replacement opportunities.

Solar Economics (Green Energy)

Solar Economics What are the up front costs of installing solar power in my home?

In order to get started using solar, you need to buy a whole bunch of equipment that is relatively expensive. You need an array of solar panels themselves. You need a method to mount those panels onto the roof or some sort of way to get them out exposed to the sun. In addition to that, there is other electrical equipment to connect the solar panels into another very expensive component, which is the inverter. That’s the device that changes the direct current from the solar panels into alternating current that goes into your home. There are some other costs, such as permit costs which you may need depending on what the jurisduction you are in requires. Depending on the size of the system, and how much labor on the system you are going to do yourself, and depending on what rebates are available from different sources that you may be able to find, your affordable tag system may cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 to upwards of $25,000.

Halogen Bulbs

Using the power of the sunlight is much easier than you can possibly imagine. When you think and consider about solar heating, you in all probability might envision a number of complicated design of solar panels, but the simple fact is that a person may utilize the energy of the sun ‘passively’ by implementing a few practical guidelines.

Grid-Tied Solar Power

Grid-Tied SolarA grid-tied solar system is one in which your home or business is connected to your solar power system and also is connected to the power grid. This enables you to send any excess power you produce back to the electric company through a plan known as net metering. At night, or on cloudy days, you simply revert to buying power from the utility company. The technology in the system makes this a seamless process.

Free Solar Panels to 2.5 Million UK Households

home sun energy

HomeSun, a British solar company, has announced that it will spend 1 billion (US$1.6 billion) on a free solar panel giveaway to British households. The method behind HomeSun’s billion-dollar madness is to promote home solar power in the UK. The free installations will be spread out over the next three years and will add solar energy to an estimated 2.5 million homes.
